Poseidon

Poseidon, a moody and violent god, was lord of the sea. He had fierce blue eyes and blue hair and was often called the Earthshaker.  When Poseidon was calm, he would reach out his hand, still the sea, and out of the water would come new lands. However, when he struck the ground with his trident the earth trembled, and the waves rose as high as the mountains.

Before Poseidon ruled the seas, Nereus, son of Mother Earth did. When Poseidon came to rule, Nereus gave him his daughter Amphitrite for his queen. Poseidon and Amphitrite had a palace at the bottom of the sea where Amphitrite lived surrounded by her forty-nine Nereid sisters, and her only son Triton, who had a fishtail instead of legs. Poseidon was a restless god and was rarely home. Like his brother Zeus, Poseidon had many wives and children, but Amphitrite was not jealous or vengeful like Hera.
