| Neil Armstrong, an american astronaut, commanded the Gemini 8 mission on March 16, 1966 and the Apollo 11 mission in July 16-24, 1969, during which he and Buzz Aldrin became the first and second persons, respectively, to walk on the moon. He was deputy associate administrator for aeronautics from 1970-71 at NASA, taught aeronautical engineering from 1971-79 at the University of Cincinnati, and served on the National Commission on Space in 1985. | ![]() |
