We encourage users of this site to follow the topics list in order. Each topic builds upon the next, and this is the best way to learn the material. At the
end of each topic is a short quiz which you should complete. It allows you to
assess your learning and to review the material before moving on. If you don't understand something, feel free to post a question to our Question Forum. And,
most importantly, have fun while reading the material in our site.
Science is about explaining the world and how it works. We hope that you will
begin to see that after experiencing this web site. This site explains the very
processes that shape and mold the universe. Science is also a process. It is
an ongoing thing. New discoveries are made every day. For this reason, some of
the things we say in our texts could be slightly inaccurate. Additionally,
sometimes it is necessary to approximate things. Basically, this means that in
some cases we have simplified a process in order for it to be easier to
understand. We have tried to minimize this approximation process, however.
Science and society are intertwined. You will see that as scientific discoveries
and processes are revealed, they are applied to society. For instance, the
development of nuclear energy is a societal application of science. This application can
often lead to controversy and dispute. For example, there are thousands of
anti-nuclear protest groups. Some of these groups might be warranted. We hope
that after exploring this site, you will understand better the problem with the
application of nuclear physics to society: the quandry of nuclear energy.
