Teach It!

1. Separate students into about five or six groups and have each group create a weather station.
2. Place the weather stations at different places around the school
3. Each day, assign three students from each group to record the information. Have one check it in the morning, one at lunch, and one after school. Students can record the information using the form found in the forecasting section.
4. At the end of the week, have each group create a forecast for the next week. Whoever is closest gets extra credit.
5. The next week, rotate the stations and the groups so they are studying the weather from a different place.
6. At the end of the project (after each group has studied at every station), have the students write a report on what they found and compare the different stations. Which station gave the most accurate results? What instruments didn't work very well? Have the groups include all of their records and forecasts in the packet, as well.

Watch Jim's progression (or anyone else's) to see how the rotation works. This example shows how it can work for a group of thirty students, so you might have to adjust to fit the size of your class. Another option would be to make more stations (and/or add more students to each station) if you have more than one class.
