Drought

When El Niņo reversed the trade winds, a warm moisture spot developed off the coast of South America. This moisture affects weather all over the world, including Zimbabwe in Africa. Located in the southern part of Africa, Zimbabwe had a dry year, without much rain. Instead of having rain to help the crops grow, Zimbabwe had a heat spell of dryness. Water rationing and crop failure are often the most apparent effects of having a drop: water rationing for preserving the resources and crop failure from the lack of moisture.

Losses

Without water for the crops, Zimbabwe didn't have a very good year. The corn yield (which is one of their major crops) didn't grow very well in Zimbabwe and South Africa without the proper amount of water to help it grow. This hurts the farmers because they don't have as much corn to export.
