One of the most famous and foremost of the theoretical physicists is Stephen Hawking. He currently holds the position of Lucasian Chair of Mathematics at Cambridge, a post once held by Sir Isaac Newton. Hawking suffers from the incurable disease amyotrophic lateral schlerosis, ALS, which cause muscle atrophy. Unfortunantly his disease has caused him to lose his voice; Hawking communicates using a voice synthesizer.

One of Hawking's collegues happens to be a betting partner. Kip Thorne, an American physicist at CalTech, has won two bets from Hawking; the first concerned the existence of a black hole around the star Cygnus XG-1; the second concerned the existence of "naked" singularities. Thorne has researched many fields of theoretical physics, revealing many tantalizing facts of the universe.

There are many, many infulential physicists who have discovered the truth in the universe. These ranks include Enrico Fermi, Erwin Schrodinger, George Gamow, Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, Albert Einstein (almost forgot about him), Max Plank, Werner Heisenberg, and many many more, many of which have something or other named after them. They all are my heros.
