Quantum physics. Ever so slowly is this science taking over the role of rocket science in culture. No longer do we say, "It doesn't take a rocket scientist."

Although we don't exactly say, "It doesn't take a theoretical physicist," we mark someone as a geek by placing a book about quantum physics in their hands (remember the shooting gallery scene involving Agent J in the movie "Men In Black"?).

But quantum physics is an important and growing field of science (it would grow faster, if not for miserly goverments who'd rather spend $5 billion on a bomber instead of building new facilities).

Physicists try to understand the fundamental nature of reality; if we understand, then perhaps humanity can manipulate space and time, for many great benefits. In any case, quantum physics is the field where most of human curiosity lies.
