Nicaragua has witnessed a spurt of small businesses and franchises which
have been extremely successful. The most well-known established chains
are Subway, Pizza Hut, and Dominoe Pizza, which are doing very well. The first
McDonalds in Nicaragua since it left over a decade ago opened July 11, 1998
and a Burger King and TGIFridays are in the works. The line
for the drive-through on opening day at McDonalds stretched 2 blocks down the
road and there was a perpetual line of 100 people lined up outside it all day.
There are a few other fast-food chains a movie theater, auto rental and repair chains. These
types of businesses will do well as will business service operations.
Nicaraguan youths begin partying at a very young age since drinking and
curfew laws are not enforced by the police and this has created a demand
for entertainment in many different forms. Many Nicaraguan's have lived outside of
Nicaragua and acquired a taste for fast food outlets and other services which Nicaragua
does not provide.
