Roman mythology was usually imported. Their gods were utilitarian. These gods were used to serve and protect men and when they failed to be useful, their worship was curtailed but their deepest religious beliefs centered on the family and state. Many Romans, however, did adapt Greek gods around 3 B.C. The Romans basically simplified them to conform with the Roman religion.
