The Pythian Games.
According the old stories the Pythian games were organised for the first time, after the Pythin was killed by Apollo.
the games existed of music-contests, a good manner to honor the God of music, Apollo. At first the games were held every eight years, but since the 6th sentury before Christ the games took place every four years. Since 582 before Christ the games were extended with athletic games and they were organised by the Amphitymony of Delphi. All the Greek cities took part of these great games.
The Pythian games were held during 6 to 8 days and their programm was opened by a processian of priests and many offers. Then there were cultural activities, wich were citer- and song contests, flute contests, dithrambe contests and tragedy contests. The athletic contests were almost the same as the Olympic games.
The winners were done great honor by a laurel crown and lots of honour and privileges.
The Isthmisian Games.
The Isthmisian games were held every two years in honour of Poseidon, the God of the sea, in Corinth. According the old stories the games were first made by the Athenian hero Theseus, who wanted to do the same as Heracles, who made the Olympic games.
The Isthmisian games were first held in 582 before Christ, the games were just like the Olympic ones. From the beginning they had an ALGreek character and when the games took place there was peace between the cities who took part. Since the 5th century the games contained also music contests, a declamation contest and paint contests. The winners were done a lot of honour and were given a crown of pine twigs.
The Nemian Games.
In Nemea wre held the Nemian games in honour of Zeus, the mighty God of the Gods. They were first controlled by the citie Kleon and later by Argos. Since the 4th century the games were held most of the time in Argos then in the wisdom of Nemea.
The Nemian games were in 573 before Christ ALGreek games and they took place every two years. They were also just like the Olympic games and later there came besides the athletic contests music contests.
The arbiters were dressed black, in honour of a little boy that was killed by an oracle spell. The winners were given crowns of celery, also in honour of that boy.
