Hestia

In Greek mythology, Hestia was the goddess of the hearth and one of the 12 great Olympian gods. She remained forever a virgin, refusing marriage both with Poseidon and with Apollo. Of all the gods worshiped by the Greeks, Hestia alone never took sides in disputes of any sort and never participated in wars. She was the protector of suppliants, representing the security and hospitality of the home. In Rome, where she was identified with Vesta, her priestesses were called vestal virgins.
