Folding occurs at an extremely slow pace which we cannot detect. Many of the mountains seen today are the result of folding long long ago. The folding action causes massive layers to be compressed, uplifting them. They then result in impressive formation of fold mountains and ranges all around the world, many of them now renowned tourist spots.
