Famous Cats
This is the page where you can learn about what we cats do very well: stealing the spotlight. This is dedicated to those brave cats out there who have gone above and beyond in their area of expertise: show business.
Bast, a.k.a. Bastet, Ubasti
She is my goddess. She's pretty cute because she has a cat head. The ancient Egyptians revered her. They're not the only ones, if you know what I mean. ;o) Ok, enough about my little infatuation. . . for now. Bast was the goddess of Bubastis, an ancient Egyptian city in the Nile Delta. She was basically a goddess of the home, but later on when there were numerous changes in the Egyptian religion, she became the lioness war goddess.
The Cheshire Cat
Alice in Wonderland is my favorite book and movie. Who hasn't at least heard of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece? My favorite character is, of course, the Cheshire Cat, who is best remembered for the way he disappears. First his body goes, then his head, leaving the smile until it, too, finally winks out of existence.
Felix
Felix hit the scene as the most popular cartoon character until the arrival of that darn Mickey Mouse. Well if it wasn't for Felix, nobody would have liked cartoons anyway.
Garfield
Who could forget that famous comic strip about that fat cat? We've seen Jim Davis's creation beat up Odie (the dog), eat tons of lasagna, talk with mice, smash spiders, and ship Nermal off to Timbuktu with no return address.
Nermal
Speaking of Nermal, here she is. The world's most adorable kitten, even after being stuck in a crate and shipped off to Timbuktu! What do you think?
Arlene
Arlene is the beautiful cat who Garfield has a crush on. Unfortunately for Garfield, she doesn't return his affections.
Sylvester
Now who has better represented the persistant hunter that exists in us cats than Sylvester? His trials to catch and eat Tweety bird always end the same way: Sylvester having nothing to eat. Never fear though, a cat will never give up!
Cats
Cats is Andrew Lloyd Webber's famous musical based on T.S. Eliot's poems on cats. The first showing was at the New London Theatre on May 11, 1981. Since then, it has become the longest running musical in the entire history of British Theatre and the longest running show in the history of Broadway. It is also one of the most successful musicals in the world.
Whittington's Cat
In the 14th century, Whittington was the Lord Mayor of London. His cat made him a rich man from a penniless orphan by getting rid of the rats from a Moroccan king's castle.
Puss in Boots
Puss in Boots was the star of a 17th-century fairy-tale called. . . Puss in Boots. See how important he was to the story? They even named it after him! Like Duke Whittington's cat, he made the person he was taking care of rich and found a princess for him to marry.
Pink Panther
The Pink Panther made his debut in the opening title sequence of the 1964 The Pink Panther. He's one of the movie industry's hippest cartoon stars.
Tom
Who doesn't know Tom and Jerry, MGM's famous duo? They quickly reached the top in the 1940's and are still popular today. Furthermore, their talent got their creators, Hanna and Barbara, numerous Academy Award nominations.
Heathcliff
Heathcliff was the perfect picture of a neighborhood cat. His antics around his house and the town became the new standard for cats in the world.
Luna
Luna is the star in the cartoon show Sailor Moon. Luna is the guide for Sailor Moon as she advises and trains her to fight the forces of evil in the world.
