A Day in the Life of a Cat

There are many things involved in a cat's day. The most important are: eating, sleeping, chasing pesky little rodents or birds, sleeping, eating again, getting lots of attention from our human pets, grooming, chasing cute cats, and did I mention sleeping? And for me, there's updating this website too, but I'm unusual. Listed below is a schedule of what a cat's day may be like. If you're a cat, you can also use it as a little instruction guide. If you want to know what cats do in greater detail, click on the picture by the activity.

Sun
5:15--Sunrise.
5:30--Wake up and stretch.
5:35--Morning grooming. We want to look good you know to impress those ladies out there. ;o) Or gentlecats as the case may be.
6:15--Make self known. We can't be ignored! Feel free to scratch carpets, meow repeatedly, jump on human pets' faces, and knock food dish around in kitchen.
6:30--Beg for food.
Food Bowls
6:35--Get food. Snub it. Beg for better food. You have a right to caviar.
6:40--Get better food. Examine it carefully. If still unsatisfactory, feel free to snub it again and beg for even better food. When you're finally satisfied, have a bite of it, then walk off.
Cat at Litter Box
6:50--Check out the litter box. Is it prepared to your satisfaction? Dig the sand and then do your business. Be sure to cover everything up with the sand.
7:00--Stand by door. Wait to be let outside. Give a sad look. Go ahead and meow piteously. Whimper if needed.
7:15--Still standing by door. Waiting for clueless pets to get the hint.
7:30--Pets finally get the hint. Head outside.
7:40--Find the perfect napping spot. Does it get enough sun?
Sleeping Cat
8:00-2:00--Nap in your perfect spot. It may not always remain perfect, so it's all right to move every so often and find a perfect spot. Be careful not to sleep under any vehicles or on any walkways. Pets don't always do a careful check.
2:00--Wake up and stretch.
2:05--Afternoon grooming. You know why.
2:40--Roam around and make sure all your territory is safe. Don't want those other neighborhood cats getting too close. Protect what's yours! This is also a good time to hit on the ladies (or gentlecats).
4:10--Back home. Now to take care of those pesky little critters. Practice your hunting technique. You can never have enough practice.
Hand Holding Up Mouse
5:10--Snag one of the pesky mice/rats/birds/insects/strange foreign objects. Take it over to the step so your pets can have some dinner. And maybe they'll finally figure out how one is supposed to catch fresh food.
5:15--Stand by door. Wait to be let inside.
5:30--Still standing by door. Starting to get impatient. Begin scratching door.
5:35--Aargh. Start banging head against door.
5:40--Pets finally get the hint. Make sure they appreciate your gift. Head inside for your dinner.
Food Bowls
5:45--Beg for food. You know the routine.
6:00--Follow pets around. Make yourself known! Get under their feet. Make them trip. Fun!
6:20--Hop on first available lap. If it's a guest that's allergic to cat hair, all the better.
6:20-6:50--Be petted. Make sure they get all the good spots, like behind your ears.
6:55--Refuse to get off their lap. Dig your claws in for emphasis. Hold on as pet tries to hurl you across the room.
7:15--Finally decide to get off their lap. Find one of the pets trying to do work. Mess it up as much as possible. Lay on the keyboard. Knock pencils and pens to the ground. Anything to get in their way and turn their attention to where it should be: YOU!
Cat at Litter Box
7:45--Do the litter box routine again.
Moon
7:50--Sunset.
8:00--Watch that weird machine in the living room. It makes interesting noises and has moving colors in the center of it. The pets seem fascinated by it, especially around this time. Maybe some day you'll figure out why they like it so much.
4 Colored Balls
9:00--Go and get one of those little toys the pets keep giving you at certain times of the year. Play with them for a while. It seems to make the pets happy too.
Chair
10:00--Make sure your claws are perfectly maintained. Head over to your personal scratching post or, if you don't have one, furniture.
10:15--Stand by door. Wait to be let outside.
10:30--Pets get the hint. Faster this time. Maybe they're learning.
10:35--Prowl around the neighborhood. You may get into a fight if that's one of your hobbies. Some cats I know, like Garfield, like to do stage shows on a neighborhood fence. Do whatever makes you happy.
11:45--Stand by door. Wait to be let inside. Make noise to get pets' attention.
12:00--Cranky but awake pet finally opens the door.
Pillow
12:05--Head to your regular sleeping spot and go to sleep.
12:05-2:10--Wake up and stretch.
2:15--Roam around the house. Make sure it's safe and no intruders snuck in. Remember: You are Super Guard Cat!
Pillow
3:00--Go back to sleep in your spot.
3:00-5:30--Sleep.
