June 6, 1944—
"Alright, soldier! Now it’s your turn to fight for your country. You’ve been assigned to the United States Army, 29th Division. That division, along with the U.S. Army 1st Division, will be landing on Omaha Beach. The main target area will be roughly between the villages of Vierville-sur-Mer and Colleville-sur-Mer."
        Everyone is getting very anxious as the time to attack draws near. Soon the time will come when you will be lowered from the warships to troop transport vehicles that will take you ashore.
        "The landing craft that we were on, was like a huge raft, with big outboards on it. [We] rode right up to shore where the trucks could drive right off" - John Cieply
        "Your friend, Roy, whom you met in basic training, seems extremely solemn. He’s barely said ten words since you embarked into the English Channel. He has a wife waiting for him back home in New York who may never see him again.
        Finally, you get the word to move to your transport boat. As you are lowered to the sea, you get a glimpse of the Normandy shore. You don’t know what is in store for you. These could be your last few minutes. You move closer to the coast, and finally…"
