National Archives: "A dense column of smoke rises more than 60,000 feet into the air over the Japanese port of Nagasaki, the result of an atomic bomb, the second ever used in warfare, dropped on the industrial center August 8, 1945, from a U.S. B-29 Superfortress."On Aug. 9, the B-29 Bock's Car takes off from Tinian to deliver the 3rd bomb, The Fat Man. This bomb is designed to be more destructive than Little Boy. The destination is the city of Kokura, but cloud cover forces a turn to the alternate site, Nagasaki. The bomb is dropped and detonated with a force of 21 Kilotons of TNT.
