A former politician and diplomat, he was also a murderer. Sickles found out his wife was having an affair with Francis Scott Key’s son, so shot and killed Mr. Key. Amazingly, the jury found him not guilty. Afterwards, he was offered an opportunity to redeem himself when he was given the command of a brigade. He became friends with General Hooker and gradually rose through the ranks until he himself became a general commanding an entire corps.
