Under the
trees, sheltered from the hot sun, it is much cooler. This helps the ground hold its moisture, and provides growing conditions for
shade-tolerant plants. There are also a lot of old, decaying tree trunks on the ground. Some of the undergrowth is very delicate, especially compared
to the trees.
