The Titanic Aftermath Many of the Titanic victims were buried in this cemetery. There are several graves with unknown bodies in them, of people who were not identified. There is also a memorial in Southampton's East Park, which was dedicated to the Titanic's engineers in April, 1914. Over 1,500 people perished in the Titanic disaster, several hundred miles from New York City, her destination. Whole families were wiped out, and the sinking left a lasting impression on those living in that time-period, as well as those today.
