Occupation: A retired landlord
Place: ‘Maidstone’ Panchgani, Chesson Road.

Q1) How do you feel about the British have they helped you?
I feel very strongly that the British were of great help if we look at it from an educational point of view.

Q2) What fascinates you about the British culture and what doesn’t?
British gave us law and order and we still follow a Parliamentary system. Our courts are all based on British Law. British always looked down on Indians. They always felt that they are superior and in our own country they made us. Indians feel like second class citizens.

Q3) What do you think would have happened if the British weren’t here?
Perhaps we would have been an independent country much earlier or more likely all the small states would quarrel and fight against each other to such an extent that we might have been taken over by some other power.

Q4) Which other culture would have colonized it? If so which one?
Yes, China, Japan or Mongolia.

Q5) Or would we be fighting amongst each other?
Yes, we would have been fighting and exposed to another culture.

Q6) How did it feel on the 50th Independence Day?
My heart was full of joy and pride that we have succeeded in governing ourselves for 50 years and in spite of everyone talking about the political mess I still have great hopes for our country.
