The Rani of Jhansi


The rani of Jhansi was the queen of Gwalior. Her husband died fighting against the British and instead of committing suttee she decided to fight against the British. The Rani felt that she had been robbed of a birthright which was hers in the Hindu law. The rani of Jhansi had reckless courage and the skill. In March of 1858, Sir Hugh Rose captured the city of Jhansi after defeating Tantia’s force. When they came to captured the city of Gwalior the rani dressed like a soldier and bravely met her death on the battle feuld. The rani of Jhansi is known all over India for her bravery and she is the Joan of Arch of India.
