Diwali


The literal meaning of Diwali is lights. Hence the custom of lighting such baked earthern lamps is part of the festival.


These are Vishnu chakras(round) that spin whenthey are lit onthe end of a shorth lenght wire that is held in the hand. The other fire works spin either on the ground or fly through the air making fascinating patterns with light.

Diwali the festival of lights, roughy marks the advent of winter. All over the country, millions of homes are lit by rows of tiny oil lamps. Shops at this time of the year do a roaring business as even the humblest family buy a new utensils and clothes. Prayers are said to invoke the blessing of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, friends and business associates of every faith exchange gaily wrapped boxes of sweets. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi descends from the heaven to earth during these days to stay at a neat, clean snug and tidy homes. Rangoli is another decoration of the house during the Diwali festival. Special bazaars for crackers and fire works are put up in towns and cities.


These are sky lanterns that are hung infront of each and every door during Diwali.
