Another example of Trotsky's sheepishness is his failure to cease power. When Lenin was alive, Trotsky appeared to be his natural successor. Stalin, However was much more aggressive and was better at politics. Trotsky appears to have been much more intelligent than Stalin when one compare's their writings. Trotsky devoloped his own theories and built onto Marxism. Not only that, but his writing was so vivid, he could have easily had a career as an author. Stalin's only contribution to Marxism was his poorly conceived and written "Socialism in One Country" theory that only postponed the inevitable Soviet collapse. Simply because Trotsky made too many mistakes while vying for power, Stalin was able to muscle his way in.

Later, Stalin meekly accepted the termination of his job as Commissar of Military Affairs without so much as a whimper. After being denied many of his other posts and banned from talking to the media, Trotsky and some of his followers pathetically made public apologies for their supposed infractions against the Party. The leaders paid no attention to the apology, but it lost Trotsky just about all of his support.
