Careers in Genetics

As the world watches the page turn, closing the book on the 20th century and opening up to the 21st, it will also experience a shift in the nature of technology. In the past one hundred years we have seen the rise and development of the assembly line, the automobile, and now the computer and Internet. As we perfect these things we will finally have the tools necessary to tackle one mystery that has always been out of reach for our ancestors - human disease. Through the use of genetics and genetic engineering we can now, or will soon be able to, repair damage or correct problems that were once as out of reach as the idea of flying to the moon. Cystic fibrosis, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and even cancer may become curable ailments through genetic treatment. Gene therapy? Yes, it appears that the time has come.
