You first of all draw it on the paper, then you cut it up, then you paste it down, then you change it, then you shove it about, the you may paint bits of it over-so actually you're not making the pictures there and then you're making it through a process, so it's not so spontaneous. After the Red Monkey series Paula continued to paint smaller situtation paintings in the same feel of the Red Monkey paintings but these new paintings had a much broader and more vibrant palette. Another difference was that Red Monkey seemed to deal with problems of the present and Paula's newer works had a more reflective quality, as if looking back to past conflicts. Paula has always including family members and friends in her paintings and several make apperances in this series although some may be in an unrecognizable animal form. Paula's mother was delighted to find out that the weeping cabbage was based on her because Paula had made her look so young.
