adenine- a white crystalline base found in DNA which links with thymine

cell- a small unit of living matter.

carrier- an individual who carries the specific organism of a disease and is able to spread it without having its symptoms.

chromosome- a thread like structure found inside each cell.

cytosine- a base found in DNA which links guanine

dominant- in genetics, capable of expression when carried by only one pair of homologus chromosomes.

DNA- (deoxyribonucleic acid)- a substance within the chromosomes that carries hereditary instructions

eukaryote- a complex cell, like those in the human body.

gene- units of heredity that determine particular characteristics, such as height and hair color. Each gene is a part of a DNA molecule.

guanine- a white, crystalline base found in DNA which links with cytosine.

helix- a strand, when joined by another becomes a double helix that holds genetic information.

hemoglobin- an iron-containing protein occurring in the red blood cells in vertebrates.

hemophilia- a person who has the disease, hemophilia

heredity- the genetic transmission of a particular quality or trait from a parent to an offspring.

hybridization- the binding of a probe to its complimentary DNA sequence.

inheritance- to aquire characteristics or qualities by trasmission from a parent to an offspring.

molecule- the smallest particle into which a substance can be divided without chemical change.

offspring- the young of a person, animal, plant; decentance.

organelles- Specialized cell bodies, such as mitochondria, ribosomes, and Golgi bodies.

organism- a living body having organs or an organized structure.

phosphoric acid- a strong material acid.

prokaryotes- a simple cell with a nucleus.

proteins- substances that occur in all living matter and are necessary for the growth and repair of animal tissue.

recessive- incapable of expression unless the responsible allele is carried by both membranes of a homologus chromosomes.

RNA- (ribonucleic acid)- Simular to DNA, it plays a key role in the production of proteins.

thymine- a pyrimidine base found in DNA

trait- a characteristic, such as hair color.
