Cancer is a broad group of diseases associated with the uncontrolled, unregulated division of cells. It is a very dangerous and deadly disease because becasue it is uncontrollable and spreads very easily. Cancer cells divide much more quickly than normal cells. Cancer is not only found in humans, it is found in plants and animals too. Many different things appear to cause cancer. Some cancers are caused by viruses while radiation has been linked to other types of cancer. Skin cancer, for example, has been linked to untraviolet radiation from the sun. Some cancers are also associated with exposure to harmful chemicals. A variety of substances which can cause cancer are found in cigarettes. Whatever the cause, scientists agree that all cancers result when the genetic information of a cell is changed. A change of a cell's genetic information is called a mutation. One type of mutation occurs when a chromosomes is broken and repaired incorrectly.
