Frames and scripting

I'm working on a web site that requires two frames, a side bar and a main frame, to interact using scripts. I'm reasonably proficient with JavaScript, but I can't for the life of me figure out how this should. Can you help? You guys have a way-cool web site. Keep up the AWESOME work!
