Important notes: The extent of images available represents the extent of the resources available, which may or may not represent the actual extent of tessellations in a particular category. For example, having few or no tessellations from culture "xxx" does not necessarily mean that culture "xxx" did not produce tessellations extensively. It may be the case that our research just did not find such information or that such information was not recorded and has been lost.
Also note that the images referenced under each category may or may not represent all images in the gallery that can be classified under that category. In many cases, only a few images are referenced, just to give enough examples. Furthermore, to avoid inaccuracies, no guesses were made regarding the source of an image if such information was not available.
