Description:

Piet Mondrian - Broadway Boogie Woogie; Oil on canvas, 127 x 127 cm (50 x 50 in); The Museum of Modern Art, New York

Date of Artwork:

1942-43

Notes: This is not an actual tessellation since it does not repeat. However, the heavy usage of squares and rectangles is a technique that can create tessellations easily. The coloring technique is also interesting. Mondrian balances the three colors used in this design (the primary colors plus gray) to give balance to the artwork.
