Description: |
portal of the Great Mosque of Cordoba, Spain; Islamic |

Notes: The first, third, and fifth sections in the middle of this portal are decorated with complex tessellations. The overall design of the portal shows much symmetry and balance. For example, the entire design has reflective symmetry (the same elements can be found on the left and right sides of the imaginary vertical line going through the center of the portal). Translational symmetries are exhibited by the columns and the arcs above the columns.
