Description:

Tracery in ceiling of Ali Qapu (The Royal Palace); Islamic

Date of Artwork:

early 17th century

Notes: Look carefully and you will see the boundaries lines. This is not an actual tessellation, but uses many similar techniques. Note the polygon-within-polygon techniques used heavily in this design (representative of the division technique). Notice the sixteen-sided polygon contained within a sixteen-sided regular polygon in the center. Many colors are used in this design, but it does not become overwhelming and confusing due to the large areas of pale brownish colors.
