Cool Topics in Modern Physics

Return to the Fizzics Fizzle Main Page.

If you spent the time visiting some of the topics in Fizzics Fizzle, you probably noticed that many of them were discovered decades, or even centuries ago. Since they seem to describe almost every aspect of our physical world, you may be thinking what is left to discover. What is happening today in the field of physics?

In fact, we do not know everything about our physical world. We do know many things about what we can see and feel everyday. However, when it comes to large-scale events (the entire universe) and small-scale events (subatomic particles), the best we can do is to guess what happens.

Since many of the ideas that modern physicists talk about can not be easily tested, these ideas, or theories, are backed up by models and mathematical calculations. Of course, many of these calculations are too complex for most people to understand. However, many of them are backed by surprisingly clear visual models. In fact, many of these theories seem to be right out of science fiction, such as the possibilities of warp drive and parallel universes. Many of these will be discussed in the following sections.
