James Watt, inventor of the steam engine with separate condenser.

The next great period of invention and inventiveness came in the Industrial revolution, which began in England in the middle of the 18th century. The Industrial Revolution was a rapid and great change of life for people living in Europe and North America. The economy changed from a small "farm" economy into being a true "manufacturing" economy.

There were two major inventions that really kick started the Industrial Revolution. These were the spinning jenny, which is a way to spin cotton using water or steam power. The other one is the steam engine. The steam engine made the factory possible, replacing outdated water wheels with a powerful and reliable form of energy.
