Through the cooperation of all five senses humans achieve a full awareness of activity around them. The cooperation between the senses goes deeper than the effect of their cooperation, rather some senses are actually intertwined. For example, from one perspective, the nasal cavity as well as the oral cavity serve the same purpose, which is to inhale air for the lungs. Yet, the cooperation between these two cavities continues furthermore. The tongue is lined with olfactory receptors. These receptors are responsible for providing a sense of taste and smell. Another example of cooperation through the senses is the fact that every organ characterized as being a sense organ can feel. Their sensation of touch is provided through the nearly endless network of nerves running through the body. The purpose for these organs specifically may be that of security. By providing a sense of touch, the tongue can feel a burning sensation when it tastes hot coffee, or the eye burns when it is scratched.
