title_respiratory.gif (12153 bytes)The respiratory system supplies the body with oxygen,  Air is inhaled through the nose or mouth.  It then travels into the pharynx, passes through the larynx, and down the trachea.  The trachea branch and air reaches the lungs where it will diffuse into the blood via the alveoli. The bloodstream then carries the blood throughout the body (see cardiovascular).  After oxygen has diffused the diaphragm forces the air back out of the lungs, and it exits the body through the same path it traveled in as carbon dioxide.
