Cardiac muscle tissue is found in the heart, and is the force behind it's contractions. Cardiac muscle tissue is protected by a connective tissue, which is arranged in a figure eight pattern. It is known as striated because of its criss-crossing patterns. Cardiac tissue is involuntary, because we do not manually control it.
The contractions of cardiac muscle operate at a steady pace. The pace of the contractions
are controlled by a type of "pace-maker", which is located within the actual
heart, but at the same time is regulated by the acts of the autonomic nervous system
(ANS).
