Indonesia contains more active volcanoes than any other country on Earth. Indonesia contains more than 130 active volcanoes. Merapi is the most active of these volcanoes. In the past it has erupted 12 times, killing many people. The volcano is considered to be sacred. Each year a priest journeys to the top to make an offering.
