Four mountain hikers were killed due to falling into a large summit crater on Adatara. The cause of death was the inhalation of H2S gas in the bottom of the crater. Warnings were given to the public for people to stay away from the volcano, as activity in the area has become more frequent over the past few years. This increased activity has led to mud spouting from ponds on the crater floor and an increase in fumarolic activities.
