Originally from "Java" Coffee or the Java island in Indonesia. Java is a programming language, invented with the goal to provide interactivity over the internet while remaining 100% secure. Java's main goal is to remain 100% secure to the user, which means that a java applet (a program written with java) can absolutely NOT harm your computer in any way. It cannot read files on your disk, nor can it write or delete them. Java cannot crash your computer or cause any other harm. Therefore it's considered an extremely safe method to provide interactivity over the internet.
