Stevie Ray Vaughan
Stevie Ray Vaughan, perhaps one of the most talented and impressive guitar players of the 1980's was raised in Dallas.  Vaughan began playing the guitar in clubs at the age of 12.  He dropped out of high school at the age of 17 and decided to move to Austin, Texas where he struggled along in his guitar career until Vaughan and his group decided to audition for the Rolling Stones.  This audition got him and his group to appear at the Montreux Jazz Festival.  At this festival Vaughan was seen by David Bowie.  Bowie hired him to play guitar on his album "Let's Dance".  Jackson Browne gave Vaughan the opportunity to use his recording studio for free.  Vaughan accepted.  He signed up with a music company and produced the album "Texas Flood" in fall of 1982.  This album received grammy awards, gold albums and other awards.  Drugs became a big problem in his life as he was using more and more.  In 1987, Vaughan overcame his alcohol and drug addiction in a rehabilitation program.  In rehab he wrote about the experience on his final studio album "In Step".  During the last few years of his life he toured with Jeff Beck and recorded an album with his brother.  Vaughan had just finished a jam with Eric Clapton and Robert Cay in Troy Wisconsin when he was killed in a helicopter crash.
