As a child, Eric Clapton's love for
the blues led him to learn guitar from American R&B. Early as
a musician Clapton played in different British bands. He finally
hit it right with a band called "The Yardbirds". The band include
Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. In 1966, Clapton left The Yardbirds
to join John Mayall's Blues Breakers. Clapton later formed
his own band, Cream. This band include bass player Jack Bruce and
drummer Ginger Baker. They quickly became a popular band, but broke
up after only making four albums. Clapton later joined Traffic's
Steve Winwood to record an album as blind faith. He would also play
with Delaney & Bonnie occasionally. He played lead guitar in
a song called "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with his friend George Harrison,
but their friendship ended because of a love triangle between them and
Harrison's wife. After, Clapton wrote a double album with Derek and
The Dominoes including Layla and other love songs. His personal problems
and pressure from his career led him to be a heroin addict. In the
early seventies he got over his addiction and went back into his career
again playing "I Shot the Sheriff" which topped the charts in 1974.
Some people said that Eric Clapton's heroin use led him to make better
songs, but even after his heroin addiction his career began to grow.
He continue to be a success making new albums and performing concerts in
the late seventies and eighties. He then reached another peak of
his career for the song "Tears in Heaven" winning a grammy. In 1994,
Clapton made the style of the song like they were in the 1970's creating
an album called "From the Cradle". Clapton was also inducted in to
the Rock and Roll hall of fame two times as a member of The Yardbirds and
Cream.
