Pinchas Zukerman
(1948- )
 

Zukerman was borne in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1948. He took instruction at the Juilliard School, New York City. There he studied the violin and viola. In 1967, Zukerman won the Leventritt Memorial Competition. Henceforward, he appeared as a soloist throughout North America. In 1969, he debuted at the New York Philharmonic. One year later, he conducted, for the first time, withe the English Chamber Orchestra. He followed that feat by taking the United States by storm--that is, he guest appeared at several major United States orchestras. In 1980, he became music director of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Nevertheless, this did not stand in the way of his soloist career. He has appeared as a violinist and violist in recitals bothe withe American violinist, Isaac Stern, and Israeli-American violinist, Itzak Perlman. He is blessed withe good health and is to this day alive.
