ROOT/Help on The Artists of the Renaissance/Getting Started
Getting Started
Because it's your first time here, and we realize that the interface that we set up on this site might potentially be confusing, we will give you some tips that you should know to make your browsing experience go smoothly.
Tip #1:
The sidebar looks like there is nothing there but if you scroll your mouse over the faded symbols they illuminate, and become the links to the major parts of the site.
The buttons on the sidebar should look like these when you scroll your mouse over them --

Tip #2
If you are viewing a picture in the art gallery or linking to a famous work from an artist biography, the picture will appear in a new window. To get back to the site, just close the new window that just opened.
Tip #3
The links on our site are not always underlined. If you see a variation in color it is most likley that the word(s) with the different color is most likley a link. On pages w/ white text the links will be grey, on pages w/ black text, the links will be dark red. Note: There are two exceptions to this rule, on the menus for the Artists and the Gallery everything is a link.
Tip #4
Because of the size of the pop-up windows we suggest your screen resolution be at least 800x600x16bit. This will make the pictures look good, and will also make sure that there is enough room for you to browse.
Tip #5
This site is all about art, so it will obviously be graphics intensive. It would be best if you were using a modem which conects at speeds greater than 28.8kbps (i.e. 33.6k modem, 56k modem, X2 modem, Cable Modem, ISDN, T1, etc...) N.B. Most schools/offices/libraries/or other public terminals usually have a fast connection to the internet.
Tip #6
To get the most out of our site you should use the newest versions of either Netscape Navigator/Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Tip #7
There is a directory tree at the top of every page to help you navigate. These trees look like this:
ROOT/Directory/SubDirectory/FileName
Use this to help you navigate around, the root will always take you to the main page, and the subdirectorys will bring you back to the indicated subdirectory.
