Duties and Responsibilities:
Respiratory Therapists treat patients with breathing and heart-lung conditions.  Their patients range from infants suffering from lung problems to elderly people with lung diseases.  They administer oxygen, oxygen mixtures, aerosol medications, and chest physiotherapy while caring for patients.  They often provide emergency treatment for patients with heart failure, strokes, drowning, or shock. 

Respiratory therapists usually work in hospitals, nursing facilities, or patients' homes.

Average Salary:  $24,000 - $43,000
Educational Requirements:
Students who want to become respiratory therapists should take challenging high school math, science, and English courses. 

To become a registered respiratory therapist, students must gradutate from an approved two year college level program and pass national written and clinical examinations.
