Recreation Therapist
| Duties and Responsibilities: |

Recreation therapists work with patients to keep them from becoming
depressed with themselves and life in general. They keep patients
busy with activities and projects like athletic events, field trips, dances,
games, and crafts. Recreation therapists also use dogs or kittens
to keep their patients happy and interested.
Frequently, they work with mentally ill, aged, and physically disabled
patients in medical centers, nursing homes, adult day care centers, mental
health agencies, park programs, and recreational centers. |

| Educational Requirements: |

Students should take challenging science, math, and English courses
in high school.
A bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation is usually required to
become a recreational therapist. Physiology, helping skills, anatomy,
characteristics of illnesses, and psychology are some of the required courses.
Many states require that therapists be licensed. |
