The Wall of Rememberances is a place where those who lived though World War II on the homefront can share their rememberances of experiences during that time. We encourage you to voice knowledge of the time period and contribute the feelings you felt during that time. Also, this is where you can comment on the site.
Wonderful work! We will be using over and over again!
i like yo
I grew up during WII. I was nine when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. I knew a lot of men who went to war and never came home. I was too young but I followed the war very closely. I still get mad with people who don't respect our flag!
I found this site researching WWI for the musical I am directing at my high school (South Pacific.) My mother was a teenager during WWII and I remember her telling me about soldiers coming through her hometown on troop trains and throwing out slips of paper with their addresses. She and her girlfriend would pick them up and write to the guys. Sometimes they made up stuff about themselves, but mostly it was true. They wrote to many soldiers and sailors during the war.
God bless all the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who served, and to those who died in WW2. As a Vietnam vet., I appriciate their sacrifices.
I am doing a project on WW2 homefront and if you have any other information please e-mail me at my address up above.
Nice website, should have had comething on women in World War 2. Pictures were O.K
I seen the start of WW-2, the fires, Nippon planes flying over head, bullets everywhere overhead, thick black smoke & fires in the Pearl Harbor area...the radio announcements to stay off the street, army trucks with soldiers rushing to protect our beaches, mostly everyone in a panic for the first four days and nights, Curfews for all civilians and children. Blackouts, rationing of gas & food products, large schools converted into military hospitals, but school children were sent to schools in the area with half day programs..Censorship was most important for our small islands, Travel by auto was limited by special permits & license plates, anyone out of bounds was arrested immediately as a spy, until he was proven to be a lost US citizen, the military enforced Marshall Law. Victory gardens were needed to supplement food rations. It was hard times for all nationalities, since Hawaii had immigrants from all nations..The Melting Pot of the World.."Brotherly Love!" carried each family thru the War Years. Military Defense had top priority for all workforce personnel. Life was hard, income was steady until the end of the war. After the war, big changes came to Hawaii.. It became too modern, with big buildings, hotels, etc. I miss the good ole days, surfing at Waikiki Beach, seeing a movie for $0.25 cents, or enjoying a malted shake for $.20 cents. Looking at the beautiful sunsets thru the coconut trees and white sand beaches over the ocean towards the horizon (Now days, one has to walk between hotels or buildings just to see the beach, where I used to play.) I would like congratulate the people who made the site..It bought back sad and wonderful days of my youth. Aloha! from Hawaii
I needed info on the Home Front for my History project and I found alot of cool things on this site. Thank you very much. -RL
I was only a very young boy of 8 years and one of many memories is the one when a nurse where I was hospitalized gathered all the young patient's around her and read a letter from her husband stationed somewhere's in the warzone. It was during 1944...she read everything to us except the very personal parts. I can still see the tears in her eyes and the smile on her face as she shared her love one with all us kids.
This was a great site! I loved it. It really helped me with my WWII report!
I love this site! I went searching the internet to find a few things related to the homwfront, but I did not expect to find such a wonderful and in-depth site such as this!!

Am trying to locate a VHS or 16mm copy of Disney's "Der Fuehrer's Face". There was also an animated short about a meek, Milquetoast type of guy until he got into his car and became a road terror. Don't remember the name, but would like to find that as well. Others: Disney's True Life Adventures (marvelous nature films) and "Gerald McBoing Boing", probably not Disney. Thanks for any help. LMunsick Also, researching for a book about Arthur Godfrey, his activities and associates. Any information, memorabilia, etc. most appreciated.
When I read the crass comments that some morons have put here I wonder why the soldiers made the sacrifices they did. Still, without there sacrifices my life today would be very different..and for that I will remain forever grateful!.
Enjoyed very much, I was Navy and in from 1943 on thru the end. Remember the USS Indianapolis CA35 whcih delivered the atomic bombs and was sunk shortly thereafter.!!!!!1
I think this site is really good.
Great page, tons of great information. Thanks.
This site is about the Homefront in WWII, right? Well, then why aren't there any information on rationing in WWII. That was an important part the homefront. They had to ration for the soldiers, and you don't have that information. SHAME ON U!!!!
The best information about WWII cannot be found elsewhere except here.
To Maj Gen Francis Murdoch USA Ret. Thank you for watching Saving Private Ryan with me. You commanded one of the first battalions to hit Omaha Beach. You are my hero.Your son in-law,Bill
First of all I have to make the creators of this site a compliment - you did a really good job! Your Site in informative and well designed. We talk about this war at school at the moment and and sometimes I can not believe what my ancestors have done. I really wish that something like that would never happen again, but when I see pictures of massacres in Kosovo I doubt that my wish will ever come true. (to the creators of this site) I think an explanation of how the situation looked like in the time Hitler was elected chancellor would be a good addition. It would help people to understand why the German people could ever make such a mistake.
My Uncle Jacob, To his dedication to the war effort. He is still honored, loved, cherished, and molested every day.
This is a really great web site for someone to know the facts of our history. It gives them a good on sight of what really happened during this time.
The war took my grand fathers life.
This site is very useful for students working on projects.

I thought this was a excellent homefront website. I am a sophmore at Southeast High School in OKC, and I am doing a WWII project for class. This website will help me get an A!
World War II was one of the worst things to have ever have happend and I truly hope that we have learned from our mistakes so that further down the road our future generations can live as one. For all those who Hail Hitler still then you are truly sick individuals. What happened is beyond imagineable and I'm glad history is there to help us remember, LEST WE FORGET.

As a pre-teen during this period of time I remember many of the items you have presented. Many thanks for helping me remember them. My parents moved to Conn. to work at P&W to help in the war effort. Again thanks for the menories
I think that this is a wonderful site that you created! My father was a navigator in a B17 in WW2. His rank was 2nd Lt.and his name was Donald P. Schlofner. His plane was shot down in Dec. of 1943 and he was killed. I was born 3 months later. I`m very proud of my father and I feel a deep connection to him even though he died before I was born. Keep up the good work with your site. It was a pleasure to visit. Sincerely, Sandra
