Families Simulation Journal Writing Possibilities Journal writing was a very important part of the World War II homefront. Anne Frank, the young girl who hid from the Nazis in a house in the Netherlands, wrote a diary of her life while in hiding which has become the most famous source information as to what it was like living in constant fear during the Nazi occupation. You can use the activities below as part of the Families Simulation. We encourage teachers to send us their best results for publication on the site! Journal One: September 1943. Working alone or with a group, develop the personalities of each of the family members. Are the members of your family optimistic about the war, gullible, sarcastic, artistic? Using the FATE option, select two FATES and then describe how family members reacted to the events and how they feel about other family members. Journal Two: Choose any significant date in the years 1943 and 1944. Visit the Timeline and Encyclopedia to learn more about one of the events from this time period. Using the FATE option, select two FATES and then describe how family members reacted to the historical events and/or the FATES. Journal Three: Write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper concerning any aspect of life during the war. Your opinion could be positive of negative. The topic does not necessarily have to pertain to the homefront; other social or economic issues could also be the topic. ©ThinkQuest 1998 Team 15511 http://library.advanced.org/15511 15511@advanced.org
