Yalta Conference: |
| The Allied conference near Yalta, in the Ukraine, took place from February 4 through February 11, 1945. It was a meeting between Allied leaders Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin. The purpose of the Conference was to determine overall Allied strategy and set up guidelines for what would happen following the war. It was determined that all German militarism should be destroyed, and that all war criminals would be dealt with swiftly. In addition, the discussion of how Germany would be governed was touched on, and the idea of zones of occupation was introduced. Also, it was agreed that the USSR would declare war on Japan within 90 days of the fall of Germany. Finally, it was declared that there would be a United Nations meeting in San Francisco following the war. |
