Books are weapons in the war of ideas!

Ukraine:
During the period prior to World War II, the Ukraine had hoped that it would be able to unite the Ukrainian people in Poland and in Russia to form an independent Greater Ukraine. This goal looked possible as the USSR invaded Poland and incorporated Polish Galicia into the Ukrainian SSR. However, Germany soon invaded in 1941. The Ukraine hoped that Hitler would make the Ukraine into an independent state under German control, but the Nazis actually partitioned the Ukraine even further and had no plans to give any power to the Ukrainian people. The USSR took back the Ukraine in 1944 and restored the nation of Ukrainian SSR. This nation would become a charter member of the United Nations until Communism collapsed. The Ukraine became an independent republic in 1991.
